About Louisiana tides

The northern Gulf runs small, mostly diurnal tides — often just one high and one low a day — where wind and river flow routinely outvote the moon.

Louisiana has 87 NOAA tide stations — 52 reference stations whose predictions come from harmonic analysis of observations there, and 35 subordinate stations calculated from them. The biggest tidal range in the state is at Joseph Harbor — 2.2 ft between mean higher high water and mean lower low water.
